I was born in Surrey, UK. I’ve been interested in art since childhood; always fascinated by the many wonderful and different art exhibitions on in London, close by.
Whilst living in Cambridgeshire for 13 years, I started drawing and painting. At first I joined a local adult education class in 1998 and was lucky enough to have a great tutor who helped, encouraged and inspired me enormously by giving me the confidence to experiment and make mistakes!
In 1999 I took a City and Guilds course in life drawing and sculpture at Stamford College, in Lincolnshire. Then in 2005, I decided to get serious and studied drawing at the ‘Princes Drawing School’ in Shoreditch, London. I continued with weekly life drawing classes in Stamford Arts Centre.
I moved to South Devon in the summer of 2012 and live in Teignmouth; close to the sea. Here as an artist I am spoilt by the many great and fascinating aspects of nature and an incredible purity of light.
How I work
I try to paint every single day. In the last few years, I have been painting landscapes, seascapes, still life, animals, people and portraits. My paintings originate from my own ideas, concepts and inspirations; which I usually try to photograph or sketch.
I use a combination of thick brushes and pallet knives to build up layers and textures of paint. The preparation of my subject matter is slow and detailed but I work very quickly when ‘on the canvas’.
My style is “fast and loose” and I use vibrant colours, which give life and movement to my paintings, with a sense of fun. I use various media; oils, acrylic, charcoal, pastels and mixed media on canvas and board.
Ready to use art
By usually using deep edged canvas up to (4 cm), my paintings can be hung ‘as they are’; as I paint around all the edges. The work I do on board or wood can also be hung as they are or framed by you, to suit your needs.
I use lightweight (but strong) canvas and board, to keep the costs of carriage at a minimum. This also allows you the choice of ways to hang my paintings.
Prints and cards
I offer prints for many of my paintings, using a specialist print provider for very high quality photography, paper or card and colour matching. These are available in A2 and A3 sizes.
People asked me to produce cards of my paintings, so I offer these individually or in packs of 4. They are all blank cards inside with a white envelope.
